Dislocating Patella Repair

Dislocating Patella Repair, Dislocating Patella Repair

Perhaps the most contemporary surgical procedure that’s performed for a dislocated patellar is known as the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL). The MPFL is looked at as the tether between the inner side of the patella (kneecap) and the end of the thigh bone (femur). When the kneecap experiences physical trauma and becomes dislocated, the MPFL is almost always torn. After an acute injury that dislocates the kneecap, a dislocated patella repair should be performed immediately to prevent further damage. If you have been involved in an accident or injury and have dislocated your knee, contact us today to schedule your initial consultation.

What is Dislocated Patella Repair?

A Dislocated Patella Repair is an advanced procedure designed to reposition a pulled or dislocated kneecap back into its natural orientation. We perform this procedure for patients who have experienced an acute injury or are prone to numerous patella dislocations due traumatized cartilage or ligaments.

How will I know if I have a dislocated patella?

Some indications and symptoms of a dislocated patella are:

  • Pain and discomfort in the knee
  • Feel as if the kneecap has shifted to an abnormal position
  • Swelling in the knee
  • Hearing a popping sound in the knee
  • An alteration in the affected knees appearance

Our highly trained orthopedic specialists can closely assess the area as well as run some examinations such as an x-ray or MRI scan in order to properly determine an appropriate treatment approach for you.

Our Experience with Dislocated Patella Repair

Our six highly trained orthopedic specialists have decades of combined experience in correcting patella dislocations and Instability. Our surgeons practice the latest in minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgical techniques such as MPFL repair to promote an optimal recovery and help you get back to living your life comfortably.

How much downtime should I expect?

Ultimately, the amount of downtime you may need away from work or physical activities will depend on the severity of the dislocated patella as well as your situation. Many patients experience very little downtime through MPFL repair as opposed to more invasive surgical approaches. Our team can better enlighten you on how much downtime you can expect after a proper assessment of the affected area.

Get back to living a comfortable lifestyle by scheduling a consultation with us at your earliest convenience. Our expert orthopedic specialists will help you determine if an MPFL repair may be right for you.
