The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body, and many adults are afflicted with sciatica. If you are struggling with sciatica, our providers at Plymouth Bay Orthopedic Associates in Duxbury can create an individualized treatment plan for you. Our team members are determined to improve your quality of life so you can enjoy the activities you love without the discomfort that accompanies this condition. Call our office today if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms.

Sciatica Symptoms:

  • Leg pain that sears, tingles or burns, as opposed to a dull ache
  • Any pain, numbness or weakness felt in the leg, feet, or toes
  • Sharp pains that make sitting, standing and walking much harder
  • Lower back pain

One of our providers will perform some assessments on your muscle strength and reflexes which will us to determine the seriousness of your sciatica as well as devise your treatment plan. If the symptoms you’re experiencing are severe, we may have to run diagnostics imaging tests such as X-rays, MRIs, CT scans or EMG tests.

Treatment Options

Surgery is only necessary when the compressed nerve causes extreme weakness, incontinence, or pain that continues to worsen or doesn’t improve with other therapies. Minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) is also an option for less severe cases. You should always see a doctor for pain associated with sciatica since it could suggest a serious medical problem. Our providers at Plymouth Bay Orthopedic Associates in Duxbury can determine which treatment or surgical approach may best benefit you.
