Dr. Brett Teran: Hip Bursitis is a condition where the bursa, which is a cushion-like structure that is meant to support muscles, tendons, and ligaments around the joint, the bursa can become inflamed and the – it can cause pain, discomfort. Usually, the condition occurs when there’s an injury directly to the hip specifically or other joint or overuse, and that bursa can become inflamed and cause pain. The treatment can be done non-operatively or non-surgically and the treatment plan can consist of specific physical therapy, exercises, medications, but also non-medication ways of treatment of a bursa to relieve the inflammation and help improve that.
Sometimes there is a problem with the tendon or structures around the bursa that causes it to be more difficult to treat or requires other diagnostic measures like an ultrasound to be able to diagnose that correctly and treat it correctly. In our practice, we have all the tools and resources available to treat these conditions including physical therapy, myself as a physiatrist and other means to help treat this condition. And if you’re experiencing this, please call and make an appointment so that we can tailor the program to your specific condition.
