About Finger Fractures:
Finger fractures can cause the whole affected hand to be out of alignment. Even though the finger(s) are small in size, they are crucial in performing specialized functions such as grasping objects or maneuvering items within the hand. One can fracture their finger by slamming their finger(s) in a door, jamming of a finger, or putting the hand out to brace for a fall.
Signs & Symptoms
- Pain and swelling
- Tenderness at the site of the fracture
- Bruising at the site of the fracture
- An inability to move the affected finger
- Finger deformity
How is it Treated?
- Pain medications
- In the case of stable fractures, the finger may be taped to an adjacent, intact finger
- Immobilization in the case of unstable fractures
- Surgical intervention may be necessary to restore stabilization. It is recommended one contact an orthopedic specialist.
