Loose bodies of the hip is a condition in which small pieces of bone or cartilage (known as loose bodies) shear off from the hip due to high-impact movement or trauma that is a result of friction caused by hip impingement, wear, and tear, or serious injury. These loose bodies can move throughout the joint, causing pain and stiffness while migrating between areas.

Signs & Symptoms

  • loose bodies can enter a joint creating a “catching” sensation within the joint
  • Pain in the hip
  • An obstructed normal range of motion
