What is it?
Trigger finger release surgery is a procedure that divides a ligament at the base of the finger. This is done in order to release the inflamed tendon that causes the patient’s trigger finger. Trigger finger release is designed to enable the patient’s affected tendon to move freely. Trigger finger release has a notably high success rate. The surgery often produces optimal results with respects to pain relief and return to the patient’s normal full range of motion.
How is it Performed?
A small incision is made around the palm near the inflamed tendon. After the incision is made, the tissues are gently spread so that the affected area is visible. The surgeon will release the inflamed tendon by opening the tunnel that is irritating the tendon. An anesthetic may be injected to minimize pain and the incision then gets closed. The procedure takes about 15 minutes per affected finger.
