About Loose Bodies of the Hip:
Loose bodies of the hip is a condition in which small pieces of bone or cartilage (known as loose bodies) shear off from the hip due to high-impact movement or trauma that is a result of friction caused by hip impingement, wear, and tear, or serious injury. These loose bodies can move throughout the joint, causing pain and stiffness while migrating between areas.
Signs & Symptoms
- loose bodies can enter a joint creating a “catching” sensation within the joint
- Pain in the hip
- An obstructed normal range of motion
How is it Treated?
- Anti-inflammatory medications to temporarily ease pain
- Physical Therapy
- Corticosteroid injection
- Surgical intervention such as a minimally invasive hip arthroscopy
