Loose bodies of the shoulder is a condition in which small pieces of bone or cartilage (known as loose bodies) shear off from the shoulder due to high-impact movement or trauma. These loose bodies can move throughout the joint, causing pain and stiffness while migrating between areas.

Signs & Symptoms:

  • Loose bodies can enter a joint creating a “catching” sensation within the joint
  • Pain in the shoulder
  • An obstructed normal range of motion

How is it Treated?

  • Anti-inflammatory medications to temporarily ease pain
  • Physical Therapy
  • Corticosteroid injection
  • Surgical intervention may be required. Seeing an orthopedic specialist should be considered.
