About Patella Fractures:
A patellar (knee cap) fracture occurs when the kneecap is broken and is often caused when one falls directly on their knee. This injury is considered serious and often requires surgery to properly heal. A knee fracture may also lead to arthritis over a longer period of time.
Signs & Symptoms
- Bruising
- Knee can no longer straighten
- Walking becomes either severely limited or debilitated
How is it Treated?
- Some non-displaced fractures can be treated with temporary bracing
- Surgical intervention is often required to treat a patella or knee fracture
